ABOUT JEFF

Jeff Elrod
Founder and Principal

Petroleum Engineer with 30 years of experience.

Jeff thrives on creative, "out of the box" thinking. The common thread throughout his career has been working with complex issues, executing difficult projects and being a "troubleshooter". With a broad base of experiences, Jeff has been able to explore new concepts and methods, design and hone ways and means to get a tasks done more efficiently and effectively. Looking at issues as a blank page and creating new paradigms in stale areas is something Jeff excels at, he revels in these types of issues, every situation is different and challenging.

Jeff grew up in an oilfield family where his father was a production engineer and lived in many locations in the US throughout the oil belt as well as Chicago, Trinidad and Egypt.  It could be said the "oilpatch" got into his blood.  Jeff worked offshore as a roustabout for several drilling companies while getting his BS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa.  He went on to receive his MBA, also from the University of Tulsa and began a career with OXY USA where he had his formative years in the production, reservoir and finally drilling groups.

In 2001, Jeff changed directions with a new opportunity and joined with ABB Lummus Global in the Floating Production Systems group as a Senior Drilling Engineer.  In this capacity, he was able to stay connected to drilling, but was able to gain a different skillset in construction and project management.   Experiences with domestic and international clients and subcontractors while working on the Agbami TLP Proposal and the Kizomba "A" ETLP EPCI projects, to name a few, were invaluable.

In 2005, Jeff embarked on a new path, that of a consultant, where he formed Ironwood Engineering, Inc.  In this capacity, he has created a niche that is extremely unique among his peers.  For example, during his time with BP, Jeff was deeply involved in the design of the "20K well of the future".  These wells were on the cutting edge and while they were mostly drillable, they pushed the boundaries of what was currently possible for well subsea drilling, completions and well control.  Wells of this nature required an ability to focus on issues using a well versed background of engineering methods and experience while at the same time being able to get out of the normal engineering box to look at unique ideas and what "could" be done.  This skill set was transferred looking at riserless work in the deepwater GoM and foresee future applications of a proven system could be introduced into sound methods of work.  His experience base and expertise allows him to go back and forth on major and minor projects in the Petroleum and Construction Fields.
